An intentional action of rebirth.

East Autumn

The work under East Autumn stands as a project, a creative method and an overall aesthetic which can be seen at times as a visual contrast to other bodies of work.

It is an intrinsic exploration of rich grain within black and white photography.  An affection which was born during my initiation with photography in my teens. This time was spent working with traditional methods, film in a darkroom. Cropping small parts of high ISO black and white 35mm negatives. The purpose, to reveal and print the organic-like particles of grain, which can be looked at as the core building blocks of a photographic image. In this moment a true love for photography was formed, this feeling for grain has never ceased.

There is a pursuit for nostalgia here, a sense to capture a time spent naively free in a darkroom. But, to also realise a final image which conveys a relationship to the past. A photograph holds an individualism which is characterised by imperfections. Dust, hair and fluctuations of blur which are unique to each separate image.

Each East Autumn project is given life as a printed tangible edition.
